Ming-Chi Kuo: AirTag 2 tracker release delayed until 2025
Apple introduced AirTag Bluetooth tags more than 2 years ago, in the spring of 2021. Even though a lot of time has passed, we shouldn't expect a new generation of AirTag anytime soon.
When We Can Expect It
Previously, AirTag 2 was expected to debut in late 2024 or early 2025. Now, however, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple has pushed back the planned timeline and moved the start of mass production to 2025. Why is unknown.
There are no details about the new model yet either. Most likely, AirTag 2 will get Apple's second-generation ultra-wideband chip, which debuted in the iPhone 15 models. This will allow even more accurate tracking of movements.
The analyst also says that AirTag will be integrated with the Vision Pro headset, but how exactly - he does not specify.
By the way, the current AirTag has gained notoriety due to its frequent use in illegal activities. For example, Apple recently faced a class action lawsuit in federal court in San Francisco: more than 30 people claim that stalkers used AirTag trackers to illegally track them.
