Tesla unveiled cheap versions of the Model S and Model X with reduced range, lowering the entry threshold by $10,000 at once
US residents can now buy Tesla Model S and Model X electric cars for $10,000 cheaper. No, the company has not lowered the price. Instead, it has introduced new versions of the cars.
Here's What We Know
For the sake of saving $10,000 will have to make some concessions. In particular, you'll have to sacrifice power reserve. The Model X Standard Range costs $88,490, has a range of approximately 430 kilometres and an acceleration time to 60 mph of 4.4 seconds.
The Model X and Model X Plaid remain in Tesla's range at $98,490 and $108,490 respectively. The former has a range of about 557 kilometres, while the latter can travel about 25 kilometres less without recharging.
The Model S in the Standard Range configuration is priced at $78,490. The electric car has a range of almost 512 kilometres and accelerates to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Top speed is 238 km/h, which is 92 km/h less compared to the Plaid version, which can travel over 630 km and costs $108,490.
