Tesla is refunding a $50,000 (or more) penalty for first-time Cybertruck buyers who decide to resell the electric pickup truck

Almost two weeks have already passed since the presentation of the Cybertruck. The first buyers have received their electric cars, but if they want to resell them in the near future, they will have to part with the lion's share of the proceeds.

Here's What We Know

Tesla still decided to refund the $50,000 penalty for the first buyers who are able to sell the Cybertruck within a year. The resale penalties were announced back when the electric pickup truck was announced back in 2019, but last month the relevant clause disappeared from the text of the contract.

At the presentation in November, no more than 10 customers received the keys to the Cybertruck. Deliveries of cars to the owners of places in the virtual queue will begin next year, and for now, buyers can only get the Cybertruck Foundation package for $120,000.

According to Electrek, people who ordered the limited edition electric pickup truck have learned that they won't be able to sell it for a year. The relevant clause has reappeared in the text of the contract. The countdown starts from the date of delivery of the vehicle.

To be more precise, Tesla has the first-priority right of redemption. Moreover, the cost will be reduced by a quarter of a dollar for each mile travelled. In case of violation of the resale order, the client will have to pay a fine of $50,000.

Moreover, if the first owner sells the Cybertruck for more than $50,000 more expensive than its official price, Tesla has the right to recover the full difference in value. In addition, the company has the right to refuse to sell electric vehicles to customers if the terms of resale of the electric pickup truck are violated. Note that there is no information yet on whether the restrictions will apply to cheaper Cybertruck configurations.
