Chinese media will pay Xiaomi $840,000 in compensation for prematurely publishing photos of the company's electric car

Xiaomi's first electric car earned nearly $1 million before its unveiling and sales launch. The company will receive a large compensation from two Chinese media outlets.

Xiaobai Car Buying and ZAKER prematurely published photos of Xiaomi's electric car. The pictures did not reveal anything new as the vehicle has been spotted several times on Chinese roads. Nevertheless, the company decided to penalise the media for breach of contract.

Xiaomi claims that the media violated the non-disclosure agreement when they published confidential content from the filming of a commercial featuring the new car. They will now have to publicly apologise and pay compensation of $420,000 each.
