The Israeli Navy will receive the INS Drakon submarine, which could potentially carry cruise and ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads
The Israeli Navy will soon have a new submarine in service. INS Drakon, a Dolphin-II class submarine, was launched in Germany.
Here's What We Know
One of the key features of the INS Drakon is its increased size. The new submarine is much larger than other Dolphin-II class submarines. It is also distinguished by the presence of a huge sail, where new missiles will be installed.
Earlier it was already known that INS Drakon will increase in size and will receive a vertical launch system. But at that time we did not know that the new missiles will be installed in the sail. This is an unrevolutionary decision. It was first done in the Soviet Union to arm submarines with ballistic missiles. The DPRK recently pulled a similar stunt.
As for the missiles for the Israeli submarine INS Dragon, their type has not yet been specified. Naval News does not rule out that we are talking about ballistic missiles that can carry nuclear warheads. In addition to them will be provided torpedo vehicles capable of launching cruise missiles, which will also be able to carry a nuclear charge.
The combination of nuclear and conventional weapons will allow the Israeli Navy to carry out simultaneous ground attack missions and maintain a nuclear deterrent.
