Here's What We Know
The relocation of the ships began on Monday. Ships that remained in port were fully mooring and military aircraft were moved to hangars that can withstand hurricane-force winds.
Hurricanes and tropical storms are inevitable in northeast Florida. The U.S. Navy has developed responses in previous years. Rear Admiral Jim Aiken, commander of U.S. 4th Fleet, said.
"Idalia" hit Florida on Wednesday. Millions of residents have been evacuated or have taken refuge in homes or shelters. The hurricane, which will pass through the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, is expected to bring rains that will flood coastal areas. Water levels could rise by almost 5 metres.
Florida has been hit by three major hurricanes since 2017. In 2018, "Michael" almost completely destroyed the US Air Force base Tyndall.
