The US Navy has sent the new Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarine USS Indiana, which can carry Tomahawk cruise missiles, to Canada

The nuclear-powered submarine arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The event, hosted by the Canadian Armed Forces, is designed to showcase Halifax as Canada's defensive ocean centre. Military personnel from Canada, Germany, France, the United States and England participated in International Fleet Week.
USS Indiana (SSN 789) is a relatively new Virginia-class multipurpose nuclear-powered submarine. It was launched in the summer of 2017. The cost of the submarine is estimated at more than $2bn, with Newport News Shipbuilding handling the construction.
The nuclear-powered submarine can reach speeds of over 60 km/h. USS Indiana (SSN 789) is armed with vertical launch systems for Tomahawk cruise missiles and has torpedo launchers for launching Mk 48 torpedoes.
