Romania considers purchasing naval combat drones
The Romanian Navy is considering purchasing maritime drones after Ukraine successfully used them against the Russian fleet.
Here's What We Know
This is currently one of several projects to modernise the Romanian army and navy. Earlier it became known that the country plans to purchase a Naval Strike Missile (a Norwegian medium-range anti-ship missile), amphibious assault vehicles, and two Airbus H215M helicopters that can engage ships.
The Romanian army seeks to ensure security at all levels, given the potential threats from Russia, especially given the common border with Ukraine and possible further Russian moves towards Moldova.
Earlier, Romania approved the purchase of two Scorpene submarines from France for about €8 billion. It is noted that the procurement process will last eight years, as the modernisation project also includes minesweepers, maritime patrol vessels, and the upgrade of existing frigates and missile carriers.
