Apple Vision Pro owners complain about cracks in the display
Here's What We Know
Several owners of Apple Vision Pro headsets have collectively reported identical cracks in the protective glass, despite the fact that the devices have not been physically damaged. The first reports of this problem appeared on the Reddit forum about 18 days ago, and since then, they have continued to arrive. Photos submitted by users show similar vertical cracks in the same area of the display, suggesting a systematic defect.
According to the reports, the cracks appear suddenly and for no apparent reason after the headsets have been stored overnight with the external battery connected. Some owners have also noted that the headsets were stored in an Apple Travel Case with a soft front cover.
There are various theories as to why these cracks occurred, including pressure from tightening the straps and possible overheating affecting the glass structure. Apple's documentation confirms that the headset continues to draw power from the battery in standby mode, which can lead to an increase in temperature.
The cost of repairing the protective glass with AppleCare enabled is only $300, and without it, the cost is up to $800. Some of the affected owners say they have contacted Apple customer service and asked for reimbursement of the repair costs, as the crack was not recognised as a manufacturing defect.
