The producer of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth assures that the game's sales in Japan are "incredibly strong"
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has been a huge success since its January release, selling over one million copies in its first week despite competing with titles such as Tekken 8 and Persona 3 Reload. Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama expressed surprise at the unprecedented sales speed, noting that previous Like a Dragon titles have gained momentum over time through word of mouth.
Here's What We Know
Sales are particularly strong in Japan and Asia, where the game outsold previous titles in terms of physical units sold in the first week. Speaking to 4Gamer, Yokoyama said:
"We gave a press release about how (Infinite Wealth) sold over one million copies worldwide in one week following its release, but it’s really a speed we have never experienced before. Like a Dragon games sell in the long run rather than right off the bat. This has been the case ever since the series’ early days. It has an adult player base, after all, so there’s no rush, you know? People hear about the games from their friends, they happen to come across them, and that’s how the titles grow. That’s why the way (Infinite Wealth) started was quite surprising to me."
Where To Play
