Gearbox Entertainment may gain independence from Embracer Group
Not long ago, it became known that the Embracer Group conglomerate is considering the sale of Gearbox Entertainment, the company behind the development of Borderlands. This decision arose as a result of the "financial turbulence" that followed the failure of a $2 billion deal earlier this year. Nevertheless, the management is considering various possibilities for the studio's future.
Here's What We Know
According to Bloomberg, in an internal email sent by Gearbox's communications director Dan Hewitt, "Gearbox independence" is mentioned as one of several options for the future. However, according to Hewitt, the "best-case scenario" would be for Gearbox to remain under the control of Embracer.
"The base case is that Gearbox remains a part of Embracer. However, there are many options under consideration, including Gearbox’s transfer, taking Gearbox independent, and others. Ultimately, we’ll move ahead with whichever path is best for both Gearbox and Embracer."
According to Hewitt, "nothing has been decided yet", and he warns of "a lot of speculation" about the company's future fate in the coming weeks.
