Players suspect that Ubisoft is going to block their access to several games
Ubisoft recently announced that it will be shutting down online servers for a number of games starting September 1st. Now Steam has started to notice a strange update, which caused users to suspect that Ubisoft is going to close access to some purchased games.
We are talking about the following projects:
- Year 2070
- Assassin's Creed Liberation HD
- Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic
- Space Junkeys.
Messages started appearing on everyone's Steam page:
"At the request of the publisher, the product is no longer for sale on Steam"
"Please note: This product will no longer be available as of September 1, 2022."
If the first message is standard and periodically appears in games that are taken from sale on Steam, then the second is no longer: messages of this format are only on the pages of the Ubisoft project. In addition, the listed games were removed from the Steam search - it is possible to get there only with a direct link.
The second message also worries users: it sounds as if the games are going to be removed from the Steam libraries or at least made unavailable - as if you can download them, but you won't be able to play them.
Similar messages have been posted on some other older Ubisoft games, but they only affect expanded editions and expansions. For example, Splinter Cell Blacklist has a warning: "Please note: The Deluxe Edition and DLC for this product will no longer be available starting September 1, 2022." At the same time, the game itself will remain.
There remains the possibility that the message was simply worded incorrectly, but it was not possible to find clarifying comments from Ubisoft. Note that three of the four games have their own nuances:
- The developers of Anno 2070 have already promised to think about how to maintain access to the game.
- There are two versions of Assisin's Creed Liberation: HD, which was released separately and is now being collected, and the enhanced edition that comes with Assisin's Creed III Remastered. It seems that they are not going to disable the improved edition.
- Space Junkeys is a multiplayer VR shooter of 2019. It appears to have been dead on arrival, with a peak online of 61 people at release and reviews remaining mixed.
