Id Software is cleaning up the multiple editions of the Doom and Quake games series

The id Software studio - developer of the cult shooters Doom and Quake - decided to "clean up" the names of numerous versions of their games in the Steam library.

Some of them will be renamed, some will be merged, and some versions will be even removed from the store.

Here are the main changes:

• Ultimate Doom will be renamed Doom (1993);
• Doom 2 will include Final Doom and Master Levels. That said, Doom 2, Doom 2 (Enhanced), Master Levels for Doom 2 and Final Doom can be run separately;
• A bundle has been created that includes Doom 3, the Resurrection of Evil supplement and the 2012 re-release of Doom 3: BFG Edition. Each game can be run separately, and owners of Doom 3 and Doom 3: BFG Edition will receive a free update;
• Quake II will be paired with The Reckoning and Ground Zero;
• Quake III Arena and Quake III Team Arena will be in one set, but will be installed separately.

New game bundles will appear:

• Doom Classic Bundle will include Doom (1993), Doom 2, Doom 3 and Doom 64;
• Doom Franchise Bundle will include Doom Eternal Deluxe Edition, Doom (2016), Doom (1993), Doom 2, Doom 3 and Doom 64;
• Quake Collection Bundle will include Quake, Quake II, Quake III Arena, Quake Live and Quake 4.

The developers at id Software warn that the following game titles will no longer appear in search, but will remain in players' libraries:

• Quake II Demo;
• Quake III Arena Demo;
• Quake III Team Arena Demo;
• Quake III Team Arena (shared with Quake III Arena);
• Final Doom (shared with Doom 2);
• Master Levels for Doom 2 (shared with Doom 2);
• Quake II Mission Pack: The Reckoning (in conjunction with Quake II);
• Quake II Mission Pack: Ground Zero (in conjunction with Quake II);
• Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (in conjunction with Doom 3);
• Doom 3: BFG Edition (in conjunction with Doom 3);
• Doom Classic Complete Bundle (will change to Doom Classic Bundle).
