Wētā Workshop, the creator of special effects and sets for the "Lord of the Rings" films, is developing a promising game based on Tolkien's universe
Last fall, Wētā Workshop, known for the amazing special effects, sets, and costumes in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, announced the development of a debut project being developed by its sister studio. They said that the game will be based on "an incredibly rich and fascinating license, which will delight fans and players around the world."
Analysts immediately assumed that Wētā Interactive will be working on a game based on the John Tolkien universe, and they were right. The official information has appeared: New Zealand studio Wētā Interactive in cooperation with the game publisher Private Division, which is part of the Take-Two Holding, is really developing the game based on the books about Middle-earth.
It is not known, which of Tolkien's books is taken as the basis for the game, what it will be called and in what genre it will be executed. From the official information it is clear that the project Wētā Interactive will not be like all the other games based on the cult franchise. The developers are focused on the game's release in fiscal year 2024.
