Embracer Group head announces long-term plans for The Lord of the Rings franchise

In the summer of 2022, Swedish holding company Embracer Group acquired Middle-earth Enterprises and acquired the rights to adapt The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. John R. R. Tolkien to create games, movies, TV series and other media projects based on The Lord of the Rings franchise.

In an interview, Embracer Group head Lars Wingefors said that his company's plans for the Middle-earth universe stretch back decades.

"We wouldn’t acquire the brand of Lord Of The Rings if we were just thinking to maximise that potential over the coming year. You need to think decades ahead. And that’s how we will continue to think about this."

That means fans of the famous fantasy saga can look forward to plenty of games, both PC and desktop, movies and TV series.

So far the Embracer Group hasn't made any high-profile announcements, but that's only a matter of time.
