Media: The Last of Us Part III is already in development "with an eye on PlayStation 6" and will be released in 2026

There has been a lot of speculation lately that Naughty Dog is developing a third installment of The Last of Us.

Of course, neither the studio's creative director Neil Druckmann, nor the other developers have commented on this information. But there is no good reason to think that the American company will abandon the idea of a sequel, especially against the background of the enormous success of the HBO series with the same name.

According to The Leak, The Last of Us Part III is indeed already in development.

The article also mentions Jason Schreier saying that game development cycles have gotten a lot longer, so when Naughty Dog started developing such an ambitious project, it's making the game for PlayStation 5, but "working with the PlayStation 6 in mind".

For his part, Forbes editor Paul Tassi believes The Last of Us Part III will be released in 2026, which we think seems a bit optimistic.
