Classic is not in vogue: critics gave a cold shoulder to the remake of the cult game System Shock, pointing out the lack of innovation
Tomorrow - on May 30 - the remake of the iconic System Shock game, which was released in 1994 and forever changed the way story games were made, will be released.
On the eve of the release, reviews for the updated game by Warren Spector, which was handled by Nightdive Studios, have been published by critics.
Here's What We Know
The game got 74 points on Metacritic and 73 on Opencritic (65% of the reviewers recommend the game). After reviewing the various opinions left on the aggregators, we can say that the remake came out too word-for-word, so many elements of the 1994 game look outdated and unnecessary.
A remake of System Shock will appeal to fans of the original game, but whether it will interest new audiences is a question. In addition, the reviewers have pointed out a number of technical shortcomings and too few innovations.
On the backdrop of contemporary games of Immersive sim genre, System Shock Remake will look archaic and monotonous.
When We Can Expect It
PC version of System Shock Remake will be available on the 30th of May, while the release date for the console versions remains undisclosed.
