All in the name of quality: Remedy has made the final decision - Alan Wake 2 will not be released on disc

After it was revealed that Remedy was planning to release Alan Wake 2 digitally only, publisher THQ Nordic has offered its services to produce a physical edition of the horror.

Here's What We Know

Remind that THQ Nordic was the publisher of the PC version of the first Alan Wake title.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Remedy's creative director Sam Lake and director of the new installment Kyle Rowley revealed that they will not be releasing the game on discs.

As the main argument, the developers explained that this way they can devote more time to the quality of the game, rather than rushing for the sake of disc production.

In addition, game designers do not consider the current practice of selling non-working games on discs, which require an additional download of the first day patch, to be correct. The Finnish studio promises that Alan Wake 2 will work fine without a Day 1 patch (but it will be released).

Going digital gives us, as developers, more time to polish the game. Because otherwise a game that comes on disc has to play without a patch. We didn't want to release something we weren't proud of and we didn't want players to be upset. That's why we hope we can give you the best version of the game this way.

The cost of the game is of no small importance to Remedy. Releasing the physical editions would have made it more expensive, with all versions.

Remedy and Epic Games have weighed up the pros and cons and decided: Alan Wake 2 won't be released on disc.

When We Can Expect It

Alan Wake II will be released on October 17 on PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
