An insider has revealed technical details of the PlayStation 5 Pro. Intermediate-generation console will be able to run games in 8K and will hit the market in autumn 2024
Insider Tom Henderson has published important details about the new intermediate-generation PlayStation 5 Pro console on his new Key To Gaming website.
Here's What We Know
According to Henderson's sources, the improved gaming platform will be available for sale in November 2024, and by November this year its prototypes will be received by major developers to have time to familiarise themselves with the technical base of the PS5 Pro.
Tom Henderson pointed out some technical details of the new console from Sony, which became known to him:
- The console's working name is Trinity;
- The console's graphics chip has 30 Workgroup Processors (WGP) - the base version of the PS5 has no more than 18;
- PS5 Pro has accelerated RAM - 18,000 MT/s (note, this is not clock speed, but megatransfers per second);
- Sony engineers are working on an improved performance mode for the PS5 Pro that will allow games to run at 8K resolution.
Tom Henderson believes that once the PS5 Pro is released, Sony will stop focusing on the current generation consoles and focus on building the PlayStation 6. It is believed that it will appear on sale in 2028.
To recall, the other day insider Shpeshal_Nick (Nick Baker) reported that Sony will unveil the PS5 Slim, a new version of its gaming console, in August. This will probably happen during Sony's big gaming show.
