Apple announces iOS 17.4 beta: what's new

Apple, days after the release of iOS 17.3, has launched iOS 17.4 testing.

Here's What's New About It

First of all, Apple has made some major changes to the way the App Store and branded apps work in the European Union to comply with the Digital Markets Act. These changes are included in iOS 17.4, but only apply to countries within the European Economic Area. For example, iPhone users in Europe will get alternative app shops, new ways to pay for subscriptions, the ability to choose a default browser, and more.

Apple has also allowed game streaming services to be published in the App Store. For example, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce NOW. Also in iOS 17.4 are new emoji, podcast transcripts, a slightly updated Safari browser, and advanced settings for the Stolen Device Protectio feature.

When to expect it

Users with a developer account can already test the update. The open beta version of the software will be released soon, and the stable release should be expected in a month.
