The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has become Amazon Prime's most popular premiere. The show was watched by 25 million viewers worldwide in the first 24 hours alone.
This is revealed in a new Amazon press release. The company notes that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power broke all previous streaming service records, debuting in 240 countries.
"Tolkien's stories - some of the most popular of all time and what many consider to be the true source of the fantasy genre - led us to this proud moment. I am very grateful to the Tolkien Estate and our showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, the cast and crew for their tireless collaboration and boundless creative energy. And it's the tens of millions of fans just like us watching Middle-earth that are our true measure of success," Amazon Studios executive Jennifer Salke

The first two episodes of the fantasy series are currently available. But viewership numbers and high-profile claims aren't always a success. Fans have not greeted the show in the best way. The series has been criticized for its sexism, lack of variety, and lack of soul. Amazon has shut down access to the rating, and IMDb is deleting negative comments.
