Cillian Murphy reveals why he regrets not starring in Interstellar: Nolan's emotional film moved him to his core

Cillian Murphy, who played the lead role in 'Oppenheimer', has not only worked on several Christopher Nolan projects, but is a fan of the acclaimed director, as are many filmgoers.

In fact, he is so deeply involved with Nolan's cinema that he sincerely regrets not being a part of one of his most popular films - "Interstellar", recognising it as an emotional and affecting film - the actor shared with The Independent when asked which Nolan film he would like to star in.

"I adore Interstellar just because I find it so emotional. I remember seeing it in the cinema when I had little kids. It just had a big impact on me. It broke my heart. I love watching his films when I’m not in them because you don’t have to freak out about the size of your ears, or whatever."

"You could go Interstellar, which is very… explores similar scientific, physics themes. Or you could watch Dunkirk, which is also set in World War II. Dunkirk is shorter, so that might be a good match ‘cause it’s like an hour-and-a-half, and then you can go into Oppenheimer."

Flashback

"Oppenheimer" was Murphy's first opportunity to helm one of Nolan's films, after the actor played in supporting roles in "The Dark Knight" trilogy, "Inception" and "Dunkirk."

"Interstellar," released in 2014 and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, Matt Damon and Michael Caine, is a film about a group of scientists sent into space in search of a new planet where humanity can start a new life.

"Interstellar" eventually became one of Nolan's most popular films, and surely Cillian Murphy would fit in well with the brilliant cast.
