'Dune' world expansion: Denis Villeneuve considers creating a trilogy. The outline is already on paper
Director Denis Villeneuve has shared plans to work on a possible "Dune" film trilogy. According to the director, he is considering the idea of turning his "Dune" film series into a trilogy.
Here's What We Know
In an interview with Empire, Villeneuve expressed his hopes of making a third film in the sci-fi epic series:
"If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be a dream"
Currently, the "Dune" films and the upcoming "Dune: Part Two" tell the story of Frank Herbert's original 1965 book. Villeneuve has yet to confirm whether a third film has been put into production, but hinted to Empire that he is already working on a script:
"I will say, there are words on paper."
Villeneuve's third film about the world of Dune would potentially be based on Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, which is a direct sequel to the first Dune book.
Villeneuve explained that "Dune Messiah" was written in response to people perceiving Paul Atreides as a hero, something Herbert didn't intend to achieve at all. If Villeneuve realises his vision for a third Dune film, he said it will be the last time he explores the world of Arrakis:
"After that the books become more… esoteric."
Villeneuve's statements come after it was revealed last week that Warner Bros. is postponing the release of the highly anticipated second instalment of "Dune". Warner Bros. announced the delay on 25 August, confirming that the premiere will not take place in November, but has been pushed back to 15 March next year.
