Sandy's "Dune" saga moves to Netflix after success on HBO Max - an attempt to attract more viewers?
"Dune," one of HBO Max's (now just Max) biggest film projects in 2021, is now coming to Netflix.
Here's What We Know
Yesterday, Netflix's official Twitter account published a post announcing that users will be able to watch "Dune" on the platform as early as 1 October.

It's not yet clear if the film will only be available on Netflix in the US or in other countries as well.
For "Dune," an unusual history of online screenings initially happened. Back in 2020, the film joined a list of films including "Mortal Kombat," "The Suicide Squad," "Godzilla vs. Kong" and "The Matrix Resurrections" for which the usual industry rules have changed. During the quarantine period due to COVID-19, Warner Bros. announced that their entire film repertoire for 2021 would be available simultaneously on HBO Max on opening day in theatres.
The films were originally only available on HBO Max for a month before becoming cinema exclusives and then moving into home distribution. However, they eventually returned to HBO Max, which confused audiences a bit.
So "Dune" remains available on Max, and will soon also be available on Netflix. This is probably a strategy to attract more viewers to Denis Villeneuve's epic before the sequel comes out.
As a reminder, "Dune: Part 2" would have been due out as early as 3 November 2023, but Warner Bros. pushed the release back to 15 March 2024. The dates were changed due to the ongoing Hollywood actors' strike, likely because the film's stars, such as Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, would not have been able to embark on a press tour amid the ongoing strikes.
