"Furiosa" is poised to conquer Cannes 2024: Can the "Mad Max" prequel repeat the resounding success of "Fury Road" and "Three Thousand Years of Longing"

One of the most anticipated film events of next year is the release of the "Mad Max: Furiosa" prequel, which is predicted to be a real success with its premiere at the annual Cannes Film Festival.

Here's What We Know

"Mad Max: Furiosa" is expected to be released in May 2024, opening a new chapter in director George Miller's beloved franchise.

As the title implies, "Furiosa" will be a prequel that tells the story of Empress Furiosa's younger years, portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as her allies and adversaries before the events of "Mad Max: Fury Road".

According to Variety, the "Furiosa" film could cause quite a stir next year thanks to its premiere at the annual Cannes Film Festival. If that happens, the film would be another outstanding achievement for George Miller on the Cannes stage after 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road and 2022's Three Thousand Years of Longing. "It is important to note that plans for the Cannes premiere of 'Furiosa' are not final at this time and are contingent on the resolution of the current SAG-AFTRA strike, which will allow the cast to actively promote the film."

"We kept an extraordinary memory of the world premiere of 'Fury Road' at Cannes" Thierry Fremaux, head of the Cannes Film Festival, told the Cannes Film Festival. "It would be wonderful to welcome them again with 'Furiosa,' especially since George Miller was a marvelous jury president in 2016. I know he's working on the film and I hope it will be at Cannes."

Here's What The Movie Is About

The plot of "Mad Max: Furiosa" plunges into a world plagued by chaos. Young Furiosa is kidnapped from the Green Sanctuary of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of the powerful Biker Order, led by Warlord Dementus. Travelling through the Barren Lands, they find themselves at the Citadel controlled by Immortan Joe. During this time, two tyrants vie for power, and Furiosa has to go through many hardships while gathering resources to return home. It's important to note that the film will also star Chris Hemsworth and he will play the role of Dementus.
