Guillermo Del Toro's "Frankenstein" continues to add to its cast of first-rate actors, with "Inglourious Basterds" star Christoph Waltz joining the project
Horror legend Guillermo Del Toro briefly announced the cast when discussing the upcoming horror film "Frankenstein", introducing a new cast member not previously known about - Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.
Here's What We Know
In an interview with Collider, the director admitted that he's been dreaming of making "Frankenstein" for 50 years. Del Toro shared actual information about the film, as well as a start date for filming:
I'm doing Frankenstein. We're working on it. We start shooting in February, and it's a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn't have done 10 years ago. Now I'm brave or crazy enough or something, and we're gonna tackle it. It’s Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and we’re working on it.
Christoph Waltz has already worked with Del Toro on the stop-motion animated film "Pinocchio", where he created the character of the ruthless Count Volpe. In general, Waltz is particularly good at portraying villains, think of his brilliant incarnation of Nazi General Hans Landa in "Inglourious Basterds" or the grim Regus Patoff in the recent TV series "The Consultant". Although, he does have some very sympathetic characters in his portfolio, like Dr King Schultz in 'Django: Unchained'.
It's still unknown what role Waltz will play in "Frankenstein", which can be said for most of the cast members.
In addition to his role as director, Guillermo Del Toro is also working on the script for "Frankenstein". There is no doubt that he will make his characteristic contribution to this gothic work.
The project is being developed in collaboration with Netflix, as was the case with "Pinocchio" and the horror anthology "Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities". The director will also join forces with acclaimed composer and frequent collaborator, Alexandre Desplat, to create the film's musical accompaniment. Del Toro will also take an active role in producing the project, working alongside regular collaborator, Gary Ungar.
Yes, it looks like Guillermo Del Toro is really living this project. We're in for a treat.
