Actor Robert Carlyle confirms that the Trainspotting film will get a spin-off focusing on Begbie: the script has already been written
British director Danny Boyle's cult film On the Needle, which is an adaptation of Irvine Welsh's 1993 novel, will get a spin-off that focuses on the unstable character Begbie.
Here's What We Know
Last year, Robert Carlyle, who plays Begbie, confirmed the start of work on a TV series based on his famous character from the original Trainspotting series. The series is an adaptation of Irvine Welsh's 2016 work "The Blade Artist". The actor shared that the writers are already working on it and that there are six episodes planned for the series.
Carlyle told Total Film magazine: "This is the first time I’ve really been there, at the concept of the thing. At this stage, as Irvine [Welsh, writer] said himself, no one knows the character like me. The plan is that it’s going to be a six-part story. We have the first script but we’re not settled on it just yet. The next draft is due to come to me in a couple of weeks.".
Here's What The Movie Is About
The story will pick up where the events of T2: Trainspotting, the 2017 sequel directed by Danny Boyle, who also directed the 1996 original, left off. Begbie now goes by the name Jim Francis and settles in sunny California, but as a result of tragic events, he returns to Scotland. Here he will inevitably have to face his past.
When We Can Expect It
There's no tentative release date for The Blade Artist yet.
