Director Tim Miller has shared some long-awaited information about the film based on the "Borderlands" video game of the same name, for the first time since the departure of Eli Roth
After Eli Roth left the Borderlands director's chair in favour of another project, an adaptation of Gearbox Software's popular video game was in jeopardy. But now, director Tim Miller has stepped in and shared some fresh information about the upcoming live-action film.
Here's What We Know
"It was an interesting experience to come in and do reshoots on a movie that’s not yours. It’s a freeing experience where you feel like, I’m just here to help wherever I can." - Miller told Collider portal.
The director also admitted that the main motivation for agreeing to such a difficult job, in addition to his great love for the video game industry, was the desire to work with Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as with the young star of the film "Barbie" Ariana Greenblatt.
"I was feeling a little rusty, so I was happy to get back in the saddle. The movie gets up and moves. It’s a good ride." - Miller added.
Eli Roth originally began directing in 2015, with screenwriter Craig Mazin, known for The Last of Us TV series, co-writing the script. However, there have been significant changes over the past eight years, with Roth leaving the project, due to scheduling conflicts, though he remained the lead director, and Mazin removing his authorship over the film's script. The new script was created in collaboration with the enigmatic "Joe Crombie" (many claim this is Mazin's pseudonym), and reshoots were handled by Tim Miller (director of Deadpool and Sonic the Hedgehog).
Here's What The Movie Is About
Based on the popular video game, the film tells the story of Lilith, who reluctantly returns to Pandora in search of the daughter of a powerful man named Atlas. She teams up with a motley gang of exiles on this journey.
The cast also includes Jack Black, Cheyenne Jackson, Janina Gavankar, Edgar Ramirez, Florian Munteanu, Bobby Lee, Haley Bennett and Gina Gershon.
When We Can Expect It
The Borderlands movie hits the big screens on 9 August 2024.
