HBO has officially announced that The Last of Us: Season 2 filming will begin in early 2024
HBO head Casey Bloys, at a recent press conference, announced that filming on the second season of "The Last of Us" will begin in early 2024, following delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Here's What We Know
It's worth noting that "The Last of Us" was absent from the network's presentation for 2024, making it safe to assume that the show won't appear until 2025 at the earliest.
Creator Neil Druckmann previously revealed: "We’ve outlined all of Season 2 and we’re ready to go as soon as the strike ends". Showrunner Craig Mazin added that the team was able to prepare a plan for a second season and even submitted a script for the first episode before the strikes were halted.
The first season of "The Last of Us" hit HBO screens in January 2023 and quickly gained widespread popularity. It is based on the famous video game of the same name, tells the adventures of Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, and Ellie, embodied by Bella Ramsey, on their journey through a devastated post-apocalyptic America, where they seek to find a cure for a viral fungal infection that turns people into zombie-like creatures.
Even before the final episode of the first season was released, the series was officially renewed for a second season. Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin will adapt the second season of "The Last of Us" based on the sequel to the video game known as "The Last of Us: Part 2."
