Netflix expands Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon saga and launches an animated series before the main film's release
It seems that Zack Snyder's departure from DC and cooperation with Netflix has been good for him. Apparently, the streaming platform fully trusts the director, as the first film of the Rebel Moon franchise will be presented to the public in just a month, and there is already a whole list of other projects in development, including an animated series.
Here's What We Know
After leaving DC in 2021, Snyder released the Army of the Dead franchise for Netflix. However, the small universe of zombies, action figures, and robbers is nothing compared to what Snyder and Netflix have in store for Rebel Moon.
Initially conceived as a more mature and darker Star Wars film, it now promises to become a major franchise for the director, including sequels, spin-offs, comic books, video games and more.
Zack Snyder is famous for his ability to create his own worlds. The director carefully works through each plot, develops the story of each character and creates large mythologies around them, regardless of whether they will be involved in the film or not. And, of course, the Rebel Moon project will be no exception.
In the interview, Snyder revealed numerous details about Rebel Moon, including the animated series:
"I’m the gatekeeper for what’s possible. I’m the only one who knows where the whole story is going, and I do have it mapped all the way. We’re doing a narrative podcast, and an animated comic book, and an animated series. They all take place before the events of the movie. So you can start to understand the vastness of the mythology that we’ve been working on."
"The world is very, very detailed and fleshed out. There’s hundreds and hundreds of pages of documents of methodology and mythology and lore. The timeline goes back 800 years, from our movies."
