Let the Dogs Go: Ryan Reynolds announces the summer release of Deadpool 3 and introduces the new furry hero Dogpool

In response to the end of the cast strike, Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that Deadpool 3 has been pushed back from May to summer 2024, as well as introducing a new, tree-barking hero in the MCU - Dogpool.

Here's What We Know

On his Instagram, Reynolds posted a picture of Dogpool along with the caption, "Did @Dogpool save the day? Not a chance in gremlin hell. But she IS currently causing the Disney plushy merch department nightmares. Coming with the movie, Summer 2024".

Just a month ago, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy questioned the film's planned May 3, 2024 release date, admitting it was a "real risk" in the face of a cast strike. Now that the strike is over, Deadpool 3 production will begin again, Deadline reports, and rumours are circulating that the film will be released in July.

So who or what is Dogpool? This good (or bad?) quadruped has appeared in Deadpool comics before, so here's the official bio from Marvel's website:

"After being confronted by the Contemplator to gather a team of future reality Deadpools to save the universe from a menace that would destroy everything in existence, Deadpool (Wade Wilson, Earth-616) traveled to Earth-103173, a reality where scientists Von Braun and Eigor conducted the Mascara-X Project, a process similar to the Weapon X program of Earth-616, on a dog by the name of Wilson in the hopes to create a new process for the Babelline Cosmetic company that would give its customers eternal youth. Believed dead, the scientist discarded the dog's body, but it was discovered by performers of a local circus who exploited the dog's power giving him the name Deadpool, the Daredevil Dog, until Deadpool (Earth-616) recruited him to become a member of the Deadpool Corps."

The third instalment of Deadpool will most likely be rated-R. Levy described the film as a "raw, brash, very R-rated" adventure that will also feature Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
