James Cameron's The Abyss returns to the big screens in 4K format

The director shared the news on social media, announcing that the film has been fully remastered in 4K and is set to return to cinemas in December.

The film was released on 9 August 1989 and managed to attract audiences, earning $90 million on a relatively low budget of $43 million. After difficult twists and turns during the filming process, which included 70-hour weeks on an isolated set, The Abyss was nominated for an Oscar in four categories, including Best Art Direction and Cinematography. The film won an Oscar in 1990 for its impressive visual effects.
