James Gunn thrilled with the script for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow - Ana Nogueira 'exceeded expectations'
"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is one of the most anticipated films in the revamped DCU universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. And it has finally found its screenwriter, with Gunn sharing his joy about it on social media.
Here's What We Know
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress and screenwriter Ana Nogueira has been chosen to write the script for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will be part of the first wave of projects in the new DCU universe called Gods & Monsters.
Ana Nogueira is best known for her acting work, including appearances on The Vampire Diaries, The Michael J. Fox Show and The Blacklist. But now the actress is building a career as a screenwriter. She has already written the play "Which Way to the Stage?" and is currently working on an adaptation of Alice Sola Kim's story "Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters."
Nogueira has previously been linked to the character of Supergirl, as she was originally approached to write the script for a Supergirl movie starring Sasha Calle, but that spin-off was cancelled following changes in plans related to The Flash. In light of the many changes over the past year, there is a high possibility of another actress appearing as Kara Zor-El in this project. However, Kaye, in a conversation with Safran, stated that she is very interested in the role. Now, only time will tell what decision will be made.
After announcing the choice of writer for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, James Gunn expressed his joy on Instagram, writing:
"A hearty public welcome to Ana Nogueira to the DC Studios family. Ana is an amazing writer whose screenplay adaptation of Woman of Tomorrow is above and beyond anything I hoped it would be. We’re excited to be moving forward on this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, star-spanning tale."
Here's What The Movie Is About
Created in 1959 by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, Supergirl first appeared in Action Comics #252.
Kara, Kal-El's cousin, was sent to Earth to help and protect her cousin. Over time, she became a heroine in her own right, becoming one of the most important women in the world of superheroes.
In Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Tom King and drawn by Bilquis Evely, Kara faces a crisis. Her life has become meaningless, despite colourful adventures in the past. She feels that everyone sees her through the prism of Superman.
Determined to give new meaning to her life, Kara embarks on a journey that will change her forever. Her new path brings her together with a young alien whose world has been destroyed and who dreams of revenge against those who robbed him of everything. If Supergirl doesn't help him, he will take justice into his own hands. Together they will go through a journey leaving deep marks in each other's souls.
When We Can Expect It
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is expected to hit cinemas in 2026.
