The new Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire - first trailer and everything we know about cast, plot and release date

The long-awaited sequel titled Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is gearing up for its debut after the successful release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife in 2021. And now we can tell more about the new instalment.

Here's What We Know

The official trailer, released by Sony Pictures Entertainment on 8 November 2023, promises viewers "send a chill down your spine".

Staying true to its title, the film's trailer takes viewers to an icy, frozen New York City. Despite the hot summers, the city is shrouded in an icy, paranormal winter, with shards of ice sticking out of the ground.

Here's What The Movie Is About

The plot unfolds in New York City, in a summertime when it seems that frost can only be a fairy tale.

The Spanglers, a family with ties to ghost hunting, return to the city to join forces with the original team - Peter Venkman, Ray Stanz, Winston Zeddemore and Janine Mills. They erect a laboratory to take ghost hunting to the next level.

Things start off peacefully, but soon the city is plunged into a paranormal winter due to an ancient artefact that releases an ancient sinister force known as the Sinister Cold. Old and new ghost hunters are forced to join forces to save humanity from a second Ice Age, which is inevitable due to the ancient mysteries.

The film was directed by Gil Kenan, who is known for his work on Monster House, the 2015 remake of Poltergeist and some episodes of the TV series Scream.

Acting Cast:

Great news for fans of the 2021 film - it has been confirmed that the main cast of Ghostbusters: Afterlife will return for Frozen Empire. They are Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace.

The return of original actors such as Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts to their roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore and Janine Mills respectively, has fans in particular in awe.

Meanwhile, William Atherton is set to return as Walter Peck, a character not seen since the 1984 original.

When We Can Expect It

The release date for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was originally set for December 20, 2023, but due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the film will be released in theatres on March 29, 2024.
