Idris Elba is set to star and direct in the new thriller Above the Below
Idris Elba, will embody the image of an astronaut who goes off course and finds himself completely cut off from the world in the upcoming thriller "Above the Below".
Here's What We Know
It was previously announced that Elba would co-direct Lionsgate's "Above the Below" with Martin Owen, but it wasn't mentioned at the time that he would also star in the film. Now THR has confirmed that Idris Elba will play the role of the astronaut alongside Caitlin FitzGerald and Hero Fiennes Tiffin.
"Above the Below" will be only the second directing experience for Idris Elba. He made his debut as a director in 2018 with "Yardie", a British crime drama thriller about a Jamaican immigrant who seeks revenge for the murder of his older brother in London.
Here's What The Movie Is About
In the film, three closely related astronauts experience a devastating return to Earth, only to find that they have gone off course and are completely cut off from the world. As their capsule begins to sink into the unknown depths of the ocean, their fight for survival begins.
Elba will play the mission commander, Jackson, while Fitzgerald will play his co-pilot, Brooks, and Tiffin will round out the main cast by playing Rhodes, a rookie astronaut.
Matt Williams, CEO of Future Artists Entertainment, commented on the project: "Working with the UK’s best and brightest in the industry on this complex and thrilling shoot, we are creating a thrill-ride movie that takes us from the Earth’s outer atmosphere to the very depths of the ocean. This is filmmaking at its most challenging and most exciting. With Idris and Martin at the helm, Above the Belowis shaping up to be an unforgettable movie experience about the extremes of survival, against all odds!"
