Cillian Murphy is ready to return to the role of Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders if the story still has a story to tell
It's still unknown if a feature film based on the original Peaky Blinders series will happen. The last information about the project was in 2022 and since then, nothing has been heard.
Here's What We Know
The final episode of Peaky Blinders, starring Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby, was released in April 2022.
A feature film was announced in 2021. In 2022, series creator Steven Knight announced that he had almost completed the script for the Peaky Blinders film and was "organising studios for filming at Digbeth in Birmingham", where the original series took place. Filming was scheduled to begin in 2023. However, there has been no news on the matter since then.
In an "Actors on Actors" interview for Variety, Margot Robbie brought up the series and asked Murphy if there would be a film.
"I mean, I’m open to the idea" Murphy replied. "I’ve always thought that if there’s more story to tell..."
"Of course there's more story to tell!" replied Robbie, confessing her immense love for the show shortly before. "You rode off on a horse! Like, what now?"
With no news on the production of the film, it's hard to believe that it will materialise anytime soon. Especially when you consider that Knight is busy working on Disney and Lucasfilm's upcoming Star Wars film, and Murphy has already finished filming another historical drama called Small Things Like These after Oppenheimer.
