Five Nights at Freddy's star Matthew Lillard dreams of many sequels: future of franchise in doubt

Matthew Lillard, who played the role in "Five Nights at Freddy's" is hoping the story continues and is ready to return to his role as the FNAF villain at any time.

Here's What We Know

The film, based on the popular video game from Blumhouse, became the best box office project in the studio's history, grossing over $300 million despite a simultaneous release on Peacock.

There are no official announcements for the continuation of the series, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the franchise is quite promising and has wide horizons for future developments.

For example, Matthew Lillard, star of Scream and Scooby-Doo, is a big believer in sequels. Speaking to EW about the home release of Five Nights at Freddy's, Lillard expressed his hopes for his character's future:

"I'm pretty thrilled right now being part of a new franchise. I'm hoping that we get to do a bunch of these and, if I'm the Voldemort, that means I'll always be in it."

The reference to the character of Voldemort, came up during a conversation between Lillard and director Emma Tammi at their first meeting to discuss the actor's role in Five Nights at Freddy's. Lillard shares that Tammy named his character "the Voldemort of this universe".

By the way, Tammy herself would also like to continue working on the film:

"We're all, including myself, very excited to keep making movies in this universe if we're lucky enough to do so and this first one does well." Tammy shared with The Hollywood Reporter last month.

Judging by the desire of the cast, the director himself, and the film's success at the box office, a sequel to Five Nights at Freddy's seems inevitable, even if there's no official confirmation of it yet.
