Amazon has won a huge deal from Warner Bros. for a spy thriller starring Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale

Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale are joining forces in the new spy thriller "Best of Enemies", for which eight studios competed.

Here's What We Know

Deadline reports that the upcoming film, based on the book Best of Enemies: The Last Great Spy Story of the Cold War by Eric Dezenhall and Gus Russo, was the subject of a massive bidding war, with Amazon the latest studio to emerge as the winner.

The script is written by Eric Warren Singer, known for co-writing the screenplay for "American Hustle," which also starred Cooper and Bale in 2013.

According to the report, "Best of Enemies" has the potential to be the "biggest deal of the year." The final rights bout involved eight parties, and Warner Bros. was the last contender vying with Amazon.

Cooper is rumoured to possibly take the director's chair, but that role has yet to be finalised.

Here's What The Movie Is About

Best of Enemies description according to Deadline: Published in 2018 by Hachette Twelve division, the book tells the story of CIA agent Jack Platt and KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko, a pair of Cold War spies who developed an unexpected friendship during a time when such a thing seemed impossible. Platt and Vasilenko appeared on the Washington intelligence scene in 1978, the former working in CIA counterintelligence, the latter in the Soviet Embassy. Amazingly, they were able to forge a strong personal bond, even after each was sent to induce the other to betray the country.

The duo were involved in investigating some of the most famous espionage stories of the 20th century, including the identification of Soviet saboteur Robert Hanssen. Vasilenko spent some time in a Soviet prison after it was revealed that he was working as a double agent for the United States, but was eventually released with the help of the CIA in the 2010 Spy Exchange.
