Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom grossed only $120 million worldwide in its first weekend
Last weekend saw the premiere of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, the sequel to the story of the King of Atlantis debuted with a modest box office for a superhero blockbuster.
Here's What We Know
The film grossed only 40 million in the US. At the global box office, it managed to get 80 million, so the film earned $120 million in total during the first weekend. The sequel's budget is $205 million.
This is the fourth failed DC film this year. Before that, The Flash, Shazam! Wrath of the Gods, and Blue Beetle. It's especially sad to see this when you consider that the first Aquaman film was quite successful and managed to earn more than $1 billion.
And although Aquaman 2 was greeted warmly by the audience with 79% freshness on RottenTomatoes, critics panned the film and gave it 39% freshness.
