James Gunn has stated that the Joker 2 film will not be released under the DC Elseworlds branding
The new DC universe, under the direction of producers Peter Safran and James Gunn, will feature "Elseworlds" projects outside of the main storyline. It was speculated that "Joker: Folie A Deux" and "The Batman 2" would be released under this brand, but Gunn denied this information.
Here's What We Know
Speaking to fans on social media, Gunn revealed that the Elseworlds brand won't appear until 2025 at the earliest, when the films that Gunn and Safran oversaw after "Superman: Legacy" will begin to be released. "This means that 'Joker 2' (and likely Matt Reeves' Batman films) will not fall under the Elseworlds category, but will be standalone films without any branding.
"Won't debut until the films we've worked on" - Gunn wrote on Threads in response to a subscriber's direct question about a special brand for "Joker 2".
Here's What The Movie Is About
Officially, the plot of "Joker" Part 2 is being kept secret. But according to sources, much of the plot of "Joker 2" takes place inside Arkham Hospital. Which is understandable, considering that Joker and Harley Quinn's relationship developed within the walls of this very institution. Also, rumours surrounding the upcoming film say that the film will be a musical.
When We Can Expect It
"Joker: Folie à Deux" will only be released in cinemas on October 4, 2024.
