Aquaman was faster: 'Aquaman 2' surpassed the box office receipts of 'The Flash'
Apparently, Flash's incredible speed didn't help him, because the new "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" overtook him at the worldwide box office.
Here's What We Know
"Aquaman 2" from Warner Bros. turned the tide of DC's box office woes by earning $272.6 million worldwide, surpassing in just 12 days the total box office collections of "The Flash," which finished its 10-week run with a total of $266.5 million.
The first part of "Aquaman" still remains DC's highest-grossing film ever, having grossed $1.14 billion. Of course, the fresh sequel is not yet up to the original, but nevertheless, its worldwide box office has already exceeded the combined results of the failed "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" ($132.1 million) and "Blue Beetle" ($128.7 million).
If it continues to do so, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" could easily surpass "Black Adam" ($390 million) with Dwayne Johnson as the anti-hero.
To end the DCEU on a relatively high note, King of Atlantis needs to reach $400 million, which would make it the highest-grossing DCEU film since the first "Aquaman." (Note that "Joker," which earned $1.07 billion in 2019 is rated R because of that, which is in a separate line).
The closest DC film we're looking forward to is "Joker: Folie à Deux," which will be released on 4 October 2024, but James Gunn's new reimagined universe will begin with the release of "Superman: Legacy" on July 11, 2025.
