Goodbye Ruby Sunday: Millie Gibson is leaving the second season of the Doctor Who reboot, making way for Varada Sethu from Andor
Millie Gibson as Ncuti Gatwa's companion in Doctor Who is reportedly leaving the project after the entire first season.
Here's What We Know
Fresh news says that Ruby Sunday, played by Gibson, will no longer return in the second season of the sci-fi show's reboot. She will be replaced by Andor star Varada Sethu, who also appeared in Jurassic World Dominon, so the science fiction genre won't be new to her.
According to The Mirror, showrunner Russell T Davies decided to end his collaboration with Gibson back last year as soon as the actress finished filming. The same publication says that Gibson will not appear in this year's Christmas special, but will play in three episodes of Season 15, and one of them will be a standalone episode that wraps up her storyline.
It is currently known that Seto has already started filming, and that a guest companion is likely to appear in the Christmas special.
To clarify, the Fifteenth Doctor's appearance occurred in the third special episode of the first season of the revamped Doctor Who (sometimes labelled as season 14). The new Doctor appeared as a brand new Time Lord, free from the burden of previous incarnations, although he retained the memories of his predecessors. The Fourteenth Doctor, played by David Tennant, who took on the guise of the Tenth Doctor, continues to exist, remaining on Earth with his companion Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate. And episode four saw the Doctor's first encounter with his companion Ruby, who will play an important role in the upcoming season, which has eight episodes.
When We Can Expect It
The first season of the Doctor Who reboot is due to be released in May 2024. No exact date has been set yet.
