"Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu" has been given a release date

Disney is preparing to release new films in the "Star Wars" universe, among them, the super anticipated project from Lucasfilm "The Mandalorian and Grogu". Disney executive, Bob Iger, announced that it will be released in 2026.

Here's What We Know

At the Star Wars Celebration 2023 event, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy unveiled three new Star Wars films from directors Dave Filoni, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and James Mangold, who worked on "Ahsoka," "Ms. Marvel" and "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," respectively.

However, another project has emerged. Lucasfilm has announced a fourth film titled The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will be the first Star Wars feature film since Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. The film was directed by "The Mandalorian" series creator Jon Favreau.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will release the film on Memorial Day weekend.

Disney also noted two more dates for two of the three upcoming "Star Wars" films: 18 December 2026 and 17 December 2027. But it's not yet clear which specific films got those dates.

Bob Iger, during his quarterly address to shareholders, said he's looking forward to "And we're already looking forward to 2026 and beyond with Frozen 3, the first Toy Story movie since 2019 [Toy Story 5], and a new Star Wars movie that brings the Mandalorian and Grogu to the big screen for the very first time".

The Mandalorian and Grogu will begin filming this summer in Los Angeles. Favreau will executive produce along with Filoni and Kennedy, who describe the new story as "a perfect fit for the big screen."

When We Can Expect It

The film will be released on May 22, 2026.
