Gearbox announces that the film adaptation of "The Borderlands" game will kick off the "Borderlands Cinematic Universe"

According to Gearbox founder and CEO, Randy Pitchford, "The Borderlands" film will be just the first project in the upcoming "Borderlands Cinematic Universe".

Here's What We Know

In an interview with IGN, Pitchford made it clear from the start that Borderlands is not just a retelling of existing games.

"One of the cool things about the movie is we've created a cinematic universe that lives side by side with the video game universe. And of course, the characters are there and authentic in the themes and even some of the storylines. But they're independent storylines."

Pitchford added:

"So this isn't Borderlands 1. This isn't Borderlands 2. The Borderlands movie is the first of the Borderlands Cinematic Universe. And you'll see some characters from some of the different parts of what you might know from the video games. But it also gives us an opportunity to get deeper and expand a little bit."

Here's What The Movie Is About

In the upcoming release, Cate Blanchett reincarnates as Lilith to find the daughter of Atlas, played by Edgar Ramirez, on her home planet of Pandora. To help her in her deadly mission, Lilith invites soldier Roland played by Kevin Hart, the humorous robot Claptrap voiced by Jack Black, Dr Tannis played by Jamie Lee Curtis, explosives expert Tiny Tina played by Ariana Greenblatt and Tina's protector Krieg played by Florian Munteanu.

The first trailer states that "Borderlands" will closely follow Gearbox's insane shooter series.

When We Can Expect It

The film, directed by Eli Roth, is scheduled for release on August 9, 2024.
