"The Bikeriders" has a new trailer and release date
Focus Features have finally revealed the release date for the highly anticipated film 'The Bikeriders' starring Tom Hardy, Austin Butler and Jodie Comer. Also, a new trailer has been revealed.
Here's What We Know
Following Disney's decision to drop 'Bikeriders' just two months before it was due in cinemas, Focus Features acquired the worldwide rights to the film from New Regency. Now, the upcoming drama has been given a release date and a fresh trailer.
Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said:
"We are delighted to add such a riveting project to next year's strong slate of films. We look forward to once again working alongside New Regency and reuniting with the multi-talented Jeff Nichols on another one of his visionary projects.".
The reason for Disney's rejection has not been announced, but it's possible that the problems resulting from the ended actors' strike have forced the studio to prioritise other projects.
Here's What The Movie Is About
Inspired by Danny Lyon's iconic picture book, "Bikeriders" chronicles the rise of a fictional motorbike club in the Midwest in the 1960s. Over the course of the decade, the club transforms from a gathering place for local outsiders to a sinister gang.
Back in 2018, Jeff Nichols, who eventually took on the role of writer and director, revealed that he had been mulling over the possibility of making a film about bikers from the 1960s for five years, though he didn't have a finished script at the time. Nichols eventually created a script based on his original concept and began work on the project in the spring of 2022, bringing in a stellar cast (most of whom drove their own motorbikes).
The film features some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook and Norman Reedus.
When We Can Expect It
Bikeriders premiered on 31 August 2023 as the opening film of the 50th Telluride Film Festival, and is scheduled for release on 21 June 2024.
