Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo gets an engine from the Honda Civic Type R for the sake of endurance racing
Things that seem unlikely can become a reality in motorsport. For example, a Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo with an engine from a Honda Civic Type R. Such an experiment was conducted by the PSC Motorsport team from Thailand, and it is probably the world's first Lamborghini with a Honda engine. All for the 25-hour race scheduled for next year.
Here's What We Know
The standard Huracan Super Trofeo Evo with its V10 engine doesn't meet the local regulations for endurance racing. PSC Motorsport has therefore replaced it with the 2.0-litre K20C turbo engine from the Honda Civic Type R (FK8). This engine, although almost standard, has received a few upgrades: a new intake, an overhead intercooler with cooling through a large air intake on the roof, and a slightly larger turbocharger.
The power output of this unit is around 350bhp and the torque is 500Nm. The engineers managed to mate it to the original six-speed Xtrac gearbox using a specially designed mount.
This copy of the Huracan has a custom body with carbon fibre elements and aerodynamic refinements. These include a large rear spoiler, an impressive carbon fibre diffuser and a massive front splitter.
As the onboard video shows, even with the small Japanese heart, the Huracan remains very fast. The team is hoping that the reliability of the K20C will allow them to get through the 25-hour race without surprises.
