Perhaps every YouTube user has come across fake trailers of non-existent or unreleased films created with the help of artificial intelligence. These videos are signed with loud titles like "Official Trailer" or "Exclusive Footage" and are often done so well that it's hard to distinguish them from real trailers.

YouTube seems to have started fighting this vicious practice and has taken away the revenue of two channels with such videos.

Here's What We Know

Deadline reported that YouTube administration terminated partnership agreements with Screen Culture and KH Studio channels and deprived them of monetisation.

Analysis of the videos showed that Screen Culture used generative AI to mimic trailers of films from franchises such as Alien, Fantastic Four, The Incredibles and Superman, signing them as official trailers.

In turn, KH Studio created fake trailers using real films and TV series as a basis, but using AI to replace the actors. Thus, thanks to the activities of this channel you can see what Henry Cavill would look like as James Bond or Leonardo DiCaprio as the main character in Squid Game. Of course, in some cases it is interesting and informative, but then the video should be labelled accordingly so as not to mislead people.

It is noteworthy that according to journalists, major film companies such as Warner Bros. Discovery and Sony Pictures, are asking YouTube not to deprive such channels of monetisation, probably in order to generate revenue on the basis of the Copyright Protection Act.

In summary, we note that this decision by YouTube is reasonable and correct and we hope that other channels will stop passing off generated videos as official material, and this does not only apply to the film industry.
