Microsoft employees will be able to take unlimited vacation
Microsoft has provided its employees with the possibility of unlimited leave. This became known from the letter of Kathleen Hogan, HR Director at Microsoft. Microsoft calls its unlimited leave "discretionary leave" and it will apply to all full-time employees in the United States.
“How, when, and where we do our jobs has dramatically changed,” explains Hogan in the internal memo.".
The changes will take effect on January 16, which means that new employees will not have to wait to take vacation time. Hourly Microsoft employees will not be offered unlimited vacation, as will employees outside the United States. Microsoft says federal wage and hour laws make it difficult to provide unlimited vacation for hourly workers, and those not in the U.S. will keep their current vacation benefits due to other laws and regulations in other countries.
