Microsoft finally adds dark theme support to Paint

Almost two years after the announcement, Microsoft has begun testing a dark theme-enabled version of Paint, and it's now available on the Dev and Canary channels for Windows insiders. Like most other apps in Windows 11 that support dark modes, Paint will automatically switch to match your system's theme, or you can manually enable dark mode on the new settings page in Paint.

"We are also rolling out improvements to the zoom controls as well to give you more flexibility and control over the view of your content on the canvas, - explains Dave Grochocki, principal program lead for built-in Windows apps, - You can now zoom in and out with a custom value and there’s even a fit to screen button that will adjust the zoom to match the size of the Paint window and your resolution"

Other improvements to Paint include updated dialog boxes that are in keeping with the Windows 11 design, as well as shortcuts to special features. Despite this, there is still no layer option, which makes Paint the primary image editor we've used for decades on the Windows platform. Microsoft had previously planned to remove Paint from Windows 10, but then decided to keep it. Instead, the company focused on 3D Paint, an upgraded version that sought to replace the traditional Paint app on Windows.
