Within a few years, Russia will start serial production of fifth-generation Su-57 fighters with new engines. This was announced by a representative of the Russian company Rostec.

Here's What We Know

Within the framework of the current contract, deliveries of new power units can begin. The United Engine Corporation and the United Aircraft Corporation are working on this. The Su-57 is now undergoing flight tests with the second stage engine.

Up to 90 per cent of the propulsion system has been manufactured using a 3D printer. Moreover, it is presented as a sixth-generation engine. The key features include a flat nozzle with variable thrust vector.

As we noted above, deliveries of the Su-57 with new engines can begin under the current agreement. It runs until 2027. Deliveries of fighters with old engines began in 2022.

In total, the Air and Space Forces of the Russian Federation have ordered 76 Su-57 aircraft under the state armament programme until 2027. The service wants to receive 22 fighters by the end of next year.
